Healthcare Driven By Health Equity
Our Mission
Marin City Health and Wellness Center provides innovative health and wellness services to all, with the goal of African American health equity.
We provide top-level wraparound healthcare to patients of all ages and ethnicities at clinics in Marin City, Bayview Hunters Point in San Francisco, and San Rafael. Wraparound care is different from the traditional problem-driven approach to healthcare, and utilizes a strengths- and needs-driven approach for individuals and families.
Our System of Racial and Ethnic Health Inequities
Our History
MCHWC was founded in 2006 by a grassroots effort to provide culturally sensitive healthcare for residents of the vicinity. Every day we see and deal with social determinants of health—the reality that a patient’s ZIP code has a greater impact on well-being than their genetic code. Health and wealth are directly correlated, as are illness and poverty. Our services provide wraparound care to make people well.
In 2011, we became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) to provide integrated healthcare to patients using Medi-Cal. Six years later, we became a Patient-Centered Medical Home to expand care and services.
New Facility
In 2023 our flagship location in Marin City relocated to a larger facility to accommodate the clinic’s 3,000+ patients. After renovations and retrofitting, we welcomed 15 additional exam rooms and updated emergency management systems, including a power generator, and a new HVAC system.

Who We Serve
MCHWC clinics serve underprivileged communities throughout the Bay Area, providing affordable well-rounded healthcare to those who otherwise have limited or no access.
We accomplish this in two ways: by being a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and an HRSA award recipient.
As an FQHC, we qualify for specific reimbursement under Medicare and Medicaid. Grant funding from the HRSA Bureau of Primary Health Care supports community-based primary care services to the underserved, which can include migratory and seasonal agricultural workers, persons experiencing or at risk for homelessness, and residents of public housing.
