Youth Empowerment

Few Marin City residents under 40 have any memory of an intact, healthy family. We see the legacy of poverty and drugs as a mental health issue, yet most local youth programs focus on tutoring and mentoring. MCHWC offers these preventative behavioral health programs that empower young Black men and women in grades 6-12 to be leaders in school, business and community:

The Defenders—for middle/high school men

Girl Power—for middle/high school women

Quality of Life Road Trip—intensive summer program

The Defenders Paper Company—a social enterprise

Marin City Academy for Health and Wellness—innovative private school with behavioral health, academic and cultural support.
